Therapeutic riding

Therapeutic riding offers a range of physical and psychological benefits supported by extensive research. The three-dimensional movement of a horse's back simulates human gait, providing riders with a normal sensorimotor experience that enhances coordination, balance, and posture. Studies have shown improvements in joint mobility, muscle elasticity, and strength, as well as alleviation of pain and sleep disturbances.

Beyond physical benefits, therapeutic riding fosters significant psychosocial development, including increased motivation, self-esteem, and social interaction.

Groundwork

Groundwork sessions at Abingdon RDA involve building trust and communication between participants and horses through activities like leading, grooming, and basic handling. These sessions help individuals develop confidence, coordination, and a deeper connection with the horses.

By working alongside skilled volunteers, participants can experience the therapeutic benefits of interacting with these gentle animals in a supportive environment.
